Yesterday the Academy launched our celebrations for National Story-telling Week with the opening of our new ‘Chalk Talk’ Area in the Quad. Our PL Representatives and Reading Ambassadors celebrated the launch with the Principal, Trust CEO and visiting poet Adisa. Emmanuel proudly read a poem, officially making him the first student to use the Chalk Talk podium. His performance was exceptional and we hope it will inspire many other students to develop their presentation and oracy skills.
Visiting poet, and friend of the Academy, Adisa supported this week’s celebrations with lively and engaging performances for our KS3 students. Our learners were treated to funny tales of childhood, poetry recitals and some participated in a poetry-writing workshop. A sample of their work is below.
‘Magic is bubbles, a smiles, a compliment, a butterfly, true love Shaun Mendes and puppies.
I hear magic in the laughter of a baby
I touch magic in a book
I smell magic in my mum’s cooking
I taste magic in cakes’
Yaren Battaloglu (Year 8)
In my revolution
There’d be more smiles,
than knives in the back.
There’d be hearts meeting
Rather than walls between our packs.
Anisha Haque (Year 8)
In my revolution roses will no longer have sharp thorns
And glass will no longer shatter.
In my revolution hunger will turn in to
Food for everyone to share
Darkness will become a torch
to lead you down your own unique path.
Alana Butterfield (Year 7)
