This evening we held our first “marking party” with the opportunity to share tips, details and advice with and across departments.
Members of the Chalk Hills Teaching & Learning team were on hand to dispense practical strategies and offer coaching and support.
The session had a clear focus to support staff development and ensure our students get meaningful feedback on their work.
Key aspects of our marking policy are outlined below:
Marking for Literacy – Use of marking code to highlight errors in SPaG (particularly for subject specific terminology and common errors) with student correction.
Apposite Now trys (remedial or extension) – Specific activities issued related to weaknesses, errors or opportunities for development identified by marking. (Often reworking or redrafting with specific focus is effective.)
Student (green pen) reflection – All Now trys, literacy marks and other teacher prompts responded to. Ideally additional evidence of green pen used for peer/self-reflection and reworking.
‘It was a great opportunity to support staff through a Q&A session.’
‘It was good to share ideas and the refreshments were lovely too.’
