This week, forty talented PE students met with ex-student and current GB athlete, Sabrina Bakare.
Sabrina shared the story of her path from life as a Chalk Hills student to now competing at the elite level of 400m racing. Discovering her talent for sprinting at school helped her to improve discipline and understand the importance of education, which she still very much values today as she nears completion of a Psychology degree at Loughborough University.
Through questioning, the students learnt about the intensity of her training regime, how she juggles her training with studying, as well as the importance of a positive mindset when competing or faced with a potentially nerve-wracking scenario.
The Q&A presentation was followed by a sprint training session, where students completed drills designed to improve stride length and general technique. Plans have already been discussed for Sabrina to lead future training sessions at Stockwood Athletics Track with TCHA students, once she completes her degree course.
We would like to thank Sabrina for giving up her time to come in and inspire our young athletes to strive for excellence.
