What is mental health?

In many ways, mental health is just like physical health: everybody has it and we need to take care of it.

Good mental health means being generally able to think, feel and react in the ways that you need and want to live your life. But if you go through a period of poor mental health you might find the ways you're frequently thinking, feeling or reacting become difficult, or even impossible, to cope with. This can feel just as bad as a physical illness, or even worse (Mind).

In the academy we help and teach our students about what it means to have good mental health. This is through PSHCE.

In-school Support

  • Counselling – Miss L Smith
  • Counselling - Relate
  • Counselling - TOKKO
  • Counselling - CHUMS bereavement
  • Mentoring – we have staff who are supporting year groups and are delivering mentoring sessions
  • CHUMS 1:1 – we have trained CHUMS professionals coming in and working with our students for many reasons, such as anxiety, confidence and bereavement.
  • CHUMS Young Carers – we have monthly CHUMS Young Carers sessions at the academy run by trained CHUMS staff.
  • Boxing Saves Lives – trained boxing professionals working with our students on the discipline of boxing giving them an outlet, plus a physical fitness.
  • Youthscape – professionals coming in to the academy working with our students on areas such as wellbeing.
  • Active Luton -  1:1 work with students, delivering programmes on mental health and wellbeing.
  • Directional – 1:1 work and group work with our students focusing on many mental health, wellbeing and behaviour.
