The Friends of Chalk Hills Academy
The key purpose behind establishing and running The Friends of Chalk Hills Academy (previously known as the ‘Parent Focus Group’) is to provide parents/carers with a very real opportunity to contribute to, receive key information about, and be consulted upon the life of The Chalk Hills Academy and play a key role in the learners’ education.
Members are provided with the opportunity to discuss and review academy policies, protocols and procedures (as appropriate); be kept informed regarding the development of the curriculum; receive annual updates on academic progress and examination results; receive updates on key Shared Learning Trust developments and propose and lead on academy/school events and fundraising activities.
Evening meetings take place once every half term throughout the year, in addition to monthly coffee mornings, at which parents/carers can meet key staff, including pastoral team members and Senior Leaders, to exchange ideas and thoughts or just meet socially with other parents. All members also have access to a unique page of our Frog environment where they can review shared documents and contribute to forums and notices.
Every single parent and carer who has a child at the Academy is issued with their own log-in to our Frog Virtual Learning Environment. Here they can find a huge number of supportive resources and links by subject and also covering topics such as careers and e-Safety.
Using this log-in parents can also review their child’s attendance and behaviour data as well as any current homework tasks that have been set for their child.
The Academy uses a GroupCall parent communication system to allow us to easily manage the sending and receiving of e-mails and texts to parents. This system also allows easy booking of parents evening appointments and soon, electronic payments and form submissions.
There is also a free mobile app offered to parents to receive notifications and check on child attendance and behaviour data. Please ask Academy staff for further details.
